Finally Spring!!

The ice finally went out on the weekend of April 18th. We now have all kinds of ducks that are migrating through the area. They are a joy to watch as they dive for fish in the lake. A single loon has also been around, but I believe he is just passing through as there was no mate. We have not had any nesting loons on our lake for about 6 years now. This may be due to fluctuating water levels, more boat traffic and possibly because loons have been injured and killed by motor boats on the lake.
A few days ago, we saw a mother bear and two cubs over at my neighbours' house. She was laying down in the grass but when she saw us she sent the cubs up a tree!

You can never take too many pictures said...

Isn't that sad with the Loons...when we were on Palette Lake we never had a nesting pair, the boat traffic was heavy as well and there was not suitable shore line vegetation for nesting. In fact the second year there we found one of the existing loons shot!...it was along the shore line so we brought it back home and called the MNR,,,they said it was shot with a .22 caliber rifle. So Sad!!!! There was only one time afterwards did we have a pair, but no nest or babies....but we did have an opportunity to do a Great photo shoot one early June morning....the Loon painting posted on this blog is from one of those photos...

Wow nice bear sighting...Please check out my new entry....this is a painting I've been wanting to do for some time....I've dedicated it to my cherished friend who was my brother's partner...she passed away from a 6 year battle with cancer. This painting posted a challenge with such a different perspective, it was a struggle.....but with a little prayer to my Sophiee I managed it.... I will be featuring it at The Art of Remembering show.
Hope you enjoy it.....
